Resistance Flexibility & Strength Training (RFST) and the Meridian Flexibility System
This workshop will serve as an introduction to self stretching, assisted stretching, and mashing.
* MERIDIAN FLEXIBILITY SYSTEM *
The Meridian Flexibility System (MFS) is a program of 16 powerful stretching exercises for every level of practice. MFS is rooted in Chinese Medicine and similar to acupuncture in that it is based on the various meridian lines that course through the body. This system was developed by Bob Cooley, author of The Genius of Flexibility.
* RESISTANCE STRETCHING *
Resistance Stretching is a technique that empowers you to stretch and strengthen your body through the simple use of resistance. This technique is the "secret weapon" used by Dara Torres, 5-time Olympian, who just brought home three silver medals from the 2008 Olympic Games, at 41 years of age.
This system differs from traditional stretching in that instead of relaxing while holding a muscle in an elongated position, you instead resist the stretch by continuously contracting the muscle as you elongate it. This takes the pain out of stretching, prevents overstretching, and creates immediate gains in flexibility.
* SELF STRETCHING *
We will begin with self stretching, where you will learn how to use your own body as a workout machine to stretch and strengthen your muscles by using your own resistance.
* ASSISTED STRETCHING *
Later we will pair up and practice assisted stretching, where you will learn how to get stretched and stretch others using each others resistance to generate strength and flexibility.
* MASHING *
We will also "mash" each other, an approach that utilizes the feet to free up energy flow, speed up the removal of waste products from muscles, help to loosen up tight muscles, remove scar tissue, and remove trigger points.

- Please bring a yoga mat, beach towel, blanket, hat, sunscreen, etc. as we will be stretching outside.
- Bring or wear comfortable exercise clothes.
- Empty stomach or light snack before, but don't come hungry.
- Drink plenty of water starting the day before the workshop to ensure that you are hydrated.
- Water will be provided and food from RAWvolution will be served.
